Description:
The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation (NLEAFCF) provides both grants and scholarships to children and families who have lost a parent in the line of duty, had a parent become permanently disabled in the line of duty or are enduring significant financial hardships due to tragic circumstances. The NLEAFCF also supports, promotes and facilitates educational activities and programs created and operated by law enforcement and firefighting organizations whose purpose is to benefit the community at large.
This merit-based award involves a minimum of $1,000 and up to $5,000. The number of scholarships awarded depends upon the yield of the endowment. Recipients of this award may be eligible to have the scholarship renewed for up to four years. To be considered for additional years the recipient must produce documentation that proves he/she maintains a grade point average of 2.5 is registered and maintains a full credit load within each academic year.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be a child of a law enforcement agent/officer or firefighter who lost his/her life in the line of duty ( see Attachment A ). Awards are based on scholastic and other achievements such as demonstration of leadership, outstanding performance in the arts, sports, or volunteer activities benefiting the community. Candidates are not required to demonstrate financial need. Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree, certificate or diploma at any accredited college, university or technical institution in the United States . Each candidate must be registered as a full-time student during the entire academic year and maintain a 2.5 out of a 4.0 grade point average, or the equivalent.
